Round 1

November 8-11

Notable:

The first round of the Tournament was highlighted by two 500+ Innings, one Innings just short of 400, and four Innings of less than 200. Both matches consumed about 245 overs apiece. The player of the week, in my opinion, was Riaz Hussan, opener for Band-e-Amir. After a sub par 186 total by Boost, who were sent in after losing the toss, Riaz played a blinder, batting for 101 overs (7 hours and 5 minutes) and making by far the highest score of the round with 196 in 289 balls. He had 28 fours, 57% of his runs in boundaries. He also participated in 4 partnerships, 3 of which were 100 partnerships. When he departed, Band-e-Amir were on 416/5 and he had outscored the entire Boost team. His "line" was 196 runs from 289 balls with a strike rate of 68.77. Buried under 525 runs and having spent 9 hours and 55 minutes in the field, Boost had nothing left and lasted only 3 hours and 20 minutes in their 2nd Innings, losing by a massive Innings and 176 runs.

The other match was a contrast of Innings. In the 1st Innings, Mis Ainak and Speen Ghar put 917 runs on the board in 8 hours and 5 minutes. In the 2nd Innings they were limited to 236 in 4 hours and 37 minutes. Mohammad Ibrahim's (see below) 30.4-10-121-10 were not enough to save Speen Ghar from a 137 run defeat at the hands of the defending Champions in this competition.

150 runs Innings:
196: Riaz Hussan (Band-e-Amir)

Led by the bowling of  match award winner Ziaur Rahman (right arm medium fast--6 overs, 11 runs for 3 wickets ) and Fazal Niazai (right arm medium) (4.3, 10 for 4), Mis Ainak reduced Amo to 26/3 (Rahman's first 3 wickets), then from 64/4 to 69/6 (Fazal's first 2 wickets), and finally from 69/7 to 74 all out (including Fazal's final 2 wickets). It was all over within 22 overs and left Amo in tatters. There was no way back from that, and Mis Ainak won easily, using up only a third of their overs. It was Mis Ainak's 3rd consecutive Championship in this competition (they beat Boost in the 2019 Final and Amo last March in the 2020-21 Final).

PART 6: MIS AINAK INNINGS: 128/3 (26 OVERS)--194/5 (49.5 OVERS)

In a terrific battle that went down to the last ball, Mis Ainak and Boost tied. Mis Ainak qualified for the Final based on their better record: 3-1--6 points, to 2-2--4 points. After Boost set a high target in their innings based on a foundational 1st wicket partnership of 110 between Riaz Hussan and Ihsanullah, they were pegged back to 189/6. At that point they got their 2nd big partnership, 61, between Captain and Wicket Keeper Munir Ahmad and Abidullah Taniwal.

At 122/3 in the 25th over, Mis Ainak was in trouble, but then two partnerships anchored by match award winner Rahmanullah (batting 5th), with Rahim Mangal (4th) and Fazal Zazai (6th) left the scores level with 3 wickets down and 2 balls to bowl. Fazal was then run out and Mis Ainak was unable to score off the last ball, but they had already done enough to advance. Rahmanullah finished with 103 not out in 85 balls, with 10 fours, 2 sixes, and a strike rate of 121.18. At age 18, he is playing in his first List A Tournament. The aggregate in the match was 588, bettering yesterday's previous top score by 27 runs.

AMO WON BY 31 RUNS

37 PHOTOS (ACB DOMESTIC CRICKET DEVELOPMENT FACEBOOK)

Amo region has returned to the Final for the second consecutive competition, holding off Band-e-Amir by 31 runs in a high scoring 1st Semi-final. They were led by Abdul Malik's tournament high score so far, 137 from 149 balls, with 17 fours and a strike rate of 91.95. He opened the innings and was finally dismissed via run out with the score 264/5 in the middle of the 47th over. He was part of a 2nd wicket partnership of 125 with Imran Mir (59-58-6 fours and 1 six, strike rate of 101.72), tied for the highest 2nd wicket partnership in the competition so far. When Imran departed at 157/2 in the 30th over, a platform had been set for Amo to nearly double their score in the last 20 overs. For his batting performance, Abdul received the match award.

An 83 run 4th wicket partnership between Captain Zia ul-Haq (batting 4th-and top scoring for his team: 66-72--5 fours--91.67) and Nisar Wahdat (5th--58-72-6 fours--79.45) kept Band-e-Amir in the match at 171/4 (Amo was 217/4 at the same juncture), but after  Abdul Wasi (slow right arm leg break [wrist] spin) (10 overs for 54 runs with 5 wickets) took Wahadat's wicket, he also took the next three, reducing Band-e-Amir from 88/3 to 217/4 to 227/8, pretty much guaranteeing the win. The aggregate score (561) was the highest in the tournament so far.

31 Photos (ACB Facebook)

Band-e-Amir finished the League phase by winning their 2nd consecutive match, sending Boost to their 2nd consecutive defeat. It made no difference in the final Table. 4th place Band-e-Amir will face Table toppers Amo in a Semi-final. Amo beat them comprehensively on October 19, needing less than half their allotted overs to do so. 3rd place Boost will face 2nd Place defending Champions Mis Ainak in the other Semi-final. Boost opened the competition with a 7 wicket win over Mis Ainak, but it was closer than that, as they used all but 3 of their allotted 270 (a 45 over match) balls to do so.

In this match Band-e-Amir Captain Zia ul-Haq , batting 4th, scored 47 runs off 79 deliveries, with 3 fours and a 59.49 strike rate). He partnered with his team's top scorer Afzar Zazai (batting 3rd--70 from 77 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixes and a 90.91 strike rate) for 116 runs for the 3rd wicket, a vital platform for his team's final score.  Zia (slow right arm off break spin) then had an effective outing with the ball,  cutting the heart out of the Boost Innings by breaking the 121 run 3rd wicket partnership between Darwish Rasooli (battng 3rd--57 from 67 balls, 7 fours, 1 six, and an 85.07 strike rate) and match top scorer Captain Munir Ahmad (102 from 135 balls, 7 fours, 1 six and a 75.56 strike rate). Zia ended with 3 wickets for 56 runs from 10 overs. He was also the man who caught Munir off the bowling of Farmanullah Safi (right arm medium-fast) to help guarantee the win.

MIS AINAK WON BY 8 WICKETS WITH 36 BALLS LEFT TO BOWL

26 Photos (ACB Facebook)

For the second time in 3 days Amo played a match for first place, this time agains Mis Ainak. This time the result was different, with Mis Ainak, the defending champions in this competition, riding a fantastic Captain's knock by Shahidulla batting 3rd, 107 not out in 108 balls, 10 fours, 3 sixes, and a strike rate of 99.07. He took his team all the way to victory with sandwiched partnerships with Asgar Atal (2nd)--125 runs, and Ramanullah (4th)--103. It was a master class in batting and pacing an innings chasing a competitive total by the winners. Shahidulla (slow left arm orthodox--off spin) did pretty well with the ball too, personally reducing Amo's score from 115/3 (19.4 overs) to 177/5 (33.5 overs), cutting into the heart of the Amo innings with his 2 wickets. Both batsmen were bowled.

However, the win still left Mis Ainak in 2nd place based on net run rate. And tomorrow, Boost gets to have its say. A win in the final game of the League phase would put them into a three way tie for the lead at 3-1. With Amo at 0.837 and Mis Ainak at 0.538, Boost, 2-1 going into tomorrow's match against 4th place Band-e-Amir (1-2), needs a big victory to raise their 0.189 high enough to move into 1st or 2nd place. Every run scored and prevented will be important. Although all four of these teams have made the semi-finals, seeding will be decided by tomorrow's match.
