NEW ZEALAND DOMESTIC CRICKET

This page consists of links to full match and highlight videos, match reports, and scorecards for Men's and Women's Domestic competitions for the 2020-2021 season. I am providing links to matches that took place in 2021 (the "back end" of most of these competitions). I will provide some hints to help you easily find the same links for the "front end" of the competitions. January 1, 2021 is an arbitrary date, but one I chose to make the task of finishing this page easier for me. Next October, I will cover the season in real time, as I am doing now with English domestic cricket.

This page is an attempt to bring several sources together on one page, to be a sort of one stop shop for fans of domestic cricket. I hope you find it useful and enjoyable. This is part of a larger project to bring together match videos and information about domestic cricket in all of the full member ICC countries and regions.

The competitions are, in order

First Class: Plunket Shield (Rounds 5-8)

List A:
Ford Trophy (Rounds 7-Final),
Haliburton Johnstone Shield (Final only,as that was the only one streamed)

T20
Dream 11 Supersmash (both men's and women's) (Elimination Final and Final)

To skip to a different competition, use the find in page function on your device and search for the competition of your choice.

2020-2021 Plunket Shield

1ST CLASS (4 DAYS, 96 OVERS PER DAY) The competition was played between November 2020 and April 2021. Only the matches played in 2021 (Round 5-8) will be covered here. For matches before 2021 (Rounds 1-4), consult the NZ Domestic Cricket Match Reports (see below for a hint on how to do this quickly and easily) and back track.
For more statistics and records see the Cricinfo Plunket Shield Statistics page. For selected video highlights from the first half of the season, consult the

Plunket Shield Video Highlights Playlist at NZ Cricket YoutubeIt appears there are no full match videos for the first half.

Plunket Shield Page at Cricinfo (all results, scorecards, match articles, statistics, tables).

An easy way to find old match reports on a site that doesn't sort them by competition is to use the address itself to search them. All NZ Domestic matches are at a base address:

Within that they are arranged by "page" number in order to keep only a certain amount on any page.

If you are looking for a match report from 4 months ago, simply change the number after the p= while the address is in your browser's address box. Try changing 1 to 5

Look at the dates of the reports. If they are later than the date you want, use  a higher number (the higher the number, the further back in history you go). In this way you can quickly locate the report you are looking for, with minimal scrolling. For the competition, look at the picture. If there is a white uniform it is most likely a  Plunket Shield report. Colored uniforms mean it is a short form game (50 over or T20, either men's or women's). There are other lower level domestic competitions covered by NZ cricket, and they are all jumbled together chronologically. So use the one organizing feature of this information, the chronology, to best advantage. Use the scorecard list above to establish the date.

WINNER: CANTERBURY (CHRISTCHURCH)

New Zealand cricket makes available live and on demand selected full match videos of its domestic long form (1st Class 4 Day) competition, the Plunket Shield.  Six regional teams compete in an 8 match Round Robin plus competition. The video is produced from a single static camera, often without sound. But the entire matches are there. Of course short highlights are also provided. For the full match videos, a small, all encompassing video scoreboard is at the bottom of the screen.

==================================

Note: for all matches below, the Match Report links directly to highlights (for streamed matches). The scorecard link (SCORE) in the report links to a "Match Centre" for that match, which offers interactive video of all boundaries and wickets both in the scorecard and in the ball by ball commentary [see summary or or ball by ball for these highlights in sequence]. Statistics (wagon wheels, partnerships [first class], manhattans, worms and run rates [List-A])  are also available.

In this rain marred draw Auckland's Louis Delport spun his way to only the 9th First Class Hat Trick in the side's 138 year history. The last 2 of the 3 wickets are linked in a twitter post within the match report. You can see them all from the interactive scorecard linked to in the match report (they are the last 3 of Delport's 7 wicket haul linked to in his bowling line). Interestingly, though the match lasted barely over 200 overs, both Delport and ND's Scott
Kuggeleijn took 7 wickets in an innings. Again, the linked scorecard shows them all.

Both competitions were played from December 24, 2020 to February 13, 2021. Matches in both competitions were played as a series of women's/men's doubleheaders at the same venues. It was a double round robin, followed by an Elimination Final between the 2nd and 3rd place teams, and then a Final.

The competitions were covered at the Dream 11 Supersmash website. All match scores, scorecards, and match stories can be found there.

The NZ Cricket site has a Playlist of highlights that for both competitions. Men's and Women's highlights are integrated.

CANTERBURY WON BY 4 WICKETS WITH 2 BALLS LEFT TO BOWL

In spite of a hat trick in the 10th over by Mellie Kerr, which set the winners back at 40/5, they were able to recover and win on the back of an unbroken 66 run 6th wicket partnership between  Kate Ebrahim and Lea Tahuhu. Ironically, a misfield in the outfield by Kerr in the penultimate over helped Canterbury over the line. Sophie Devine of Wellington led all scorers with 47 runs in 45 balls with 4 fours. Tahuhu, who came in with her team at 60/6 in the 13th over, scorched Wellington for 38 in 20 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes.
