CRICKET COMMITTEE OF DHAKA METROPOLIS (CCDM) BANGABANDHU DHAKA PREMIER DIVISION T20 CRICKET LEAGUE 2019-20--MAY 31--JUNE 26, 2021

FINAL TABLES (Cricinfo)

DPD was a T20 competition among 12 "Superleague" Club teams.  This was originally a 50 over competition but was cancelled after one round in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions. It was changed to a 20 over competition. It was a single league format. All matches on June 1 were postponed because of rain and made up.

Points system: Win=2, Tie=1, Loss=0, No result or abandoned matches=1
Match ties are settled by a Super Over. Table ties are broken by highest net run rate (with adjustments made for rain rule matches). The top six teams in the League Phase (a single 11 match Round Robin) advanced to a "Super League" (5 match Round Robin). Those teams carried their league points into the Super League. There was also a relegation playoff between the bottom three teams in the league. This second phase began onJune 19.

The entire tournament was covered by cricketarchive from its Tournament page. Cricketarchive is a fee based subscription site. You can find out more information about team players from the player links in the scorecards.

The best free site to follow the Tournament is the Cricinfo Tournament site. From there you can link to the table, results, and statistics.

All Super League matches (and one Relegation League match) were played at:

Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur (1--Cricinfo) (2--City--Wikipedia)

The other Relegation League matches were played at

Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 3 Ground, Savar (1--Wikiwand) (2--City--Wikipedia)

Note: Source for all Super League full match videos and video highlights is T Sports TV Youtube playlists (commercial quality, commentary in Bengali with a bit of intersperced English). Source for all relegation full match videos is Bangladesh Cricket: The Tigers Youtube (static camera, no commentary). For selected relegation matches match video is also available from Bangladesh Cricket: The Tigers Facebook (multiple camera angles)  Source for relegation highlights is pitchvision.com interactive video scorecards and video highlights). Relegation sources are the same as the League matches

The League phase full match videos are all available at: Bangladesh Cricket: The Tigers Youtube  These are all Pitchvision Sports Technology feeds. They use one static camera but convey the action quite well, in my opinion. Match highlights are available at pitchvision.com (click on the link and then click on "highlights.") There is no sound.

Selected League matches (more than 30 League matches) were also streamed at Bangladesh Cricket: The Tigers Facebook. These are commercial quality streams with sound commentary in Bengali with a smattering of English. They feature multiple camera angles and give a much more complete view of the matches. They will be linked to below and noted as BCTF. Note that the match number scheme may be different on these videos than the Cricinfo match number scheme used below. BCTF also has produced video match highlights for selected days' play. These are silent with little to no identification of the teams involved. But they do give an excellent flavor for the flow of play. They will also be linked to when available.

Match articles are available at Cricinfo and www.bdcrictime.com

Super League

1. Abahani Limited (11-4-0--22--1st [tied]) v Prime Bank Cricket Club (11-4-0--22--1st [tied])

Abahani Limited& 150/7; Prime Bank Cricket Club 142/9
ABAHANI LIMITED WON BY 8 RUNS
ABAHANI LIMITED (12-4-0--24--1ST); PRIME BANK CRICKET CLUB (11-5-0--22--2ND)
ABAHANI LIMITED WON THE 2019-2020 DHAKA PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

Abahani Limited won the Championship with an excellent bowling display that defended 150. The key bowlers were:

A. Man of the Match Mohammed Saifuddin (right arm medium pace), 4 for 36 from four overs, including 3 vital wickets in his last 2 overs. He did give up 16 runs in his final over, but left PBCC still 16 runs short in the 20th over. They could only score 7 thanks to the restrictive bowling of Shohidul Islam (right arm medium pace).

B. Arafat Sunny (slow left arm orthodox). In my opinion, Sunny was the best of all the Abahani bowlers. He bowled his allotment on the trot from over 2-8, including 3 Power Play overs. He was 1 for 18, but that only tells part of the story. He gave up only 2 boundaries (1 six and 1 four within 3 deliveries over 2 overs in the Power Play). He bowled 14 dot balls, 11 in the Power Play. At the end of the Power Play PBCC were 38/2. He provided much of the pressure that, in the end, PBCC could not overcome.

The match became interesting at the end, with an Alok Kapali cameo that tried to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, just as he had helped to do two matches earlier when a short cameo of 21 not out in 15 balls (2 fours and 1 six) helped PBCC over the line with 2 wickets and 1 ball to spare against Gazi Group Cricketers (See June 23 below). This time he came in at 15.4 overs with his team 98/6 and proceeded to hammer 34 not out in 17 balls, 2 fours, 3 sixes and a strike rate of 200. He took Saifuddin apart in the 19th over, scoring 12 of the 16 runs in the over, including a four and a six. Needing 16 off 6, Shodiful stopped Alok cold with 3 dots to begin the over. He then hit a massive six. Needing a six and a four at minimum, he was restricted to a single on Shodiful's 5th ball and that was the end of PBCC. But it was a good lesson in how tenuous any lead in a T20 match can be.

2. Gazi Group Cricketers (8-6-1--17--5th) v Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club& (9-5-1--19--4th)

Gazi Group Cricketers 184/4; Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club 149 (18.0 overs)
GAZI GROUP CRICKETERS WON BY 35 RUNS
GAZI GROUP CRICKETRS (9-6-1--19--4TH); SHEIK JAMAL DHANMONDI CLUB 9-6-1--19--5TH)
GAZI GROUP CRICKETERS FINISH 4TH DUE TO A HIGHER NET RUN RATE

GGC were 71/4 at the end of 9.3 overs. Then a 113 run unbroken partnership between Mominul Haque (finished 78 in 53 balls, 11 fours, strike rate of 147.17) and Yasir Ali (finished 56 in 24 balls, 4 fours, 4 sixes, strike rate of 233.33) batted SJDC out of the game. It also allowed GCC to leap over SJDC and finish 4th in the Super League due to a higher net run rate.

3. Mohammedan Sporting Club (6-8-1--13--6th) v Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club (9-3-3--21--3rd)

Mohammedan Sporting Club& 103/5 (13.0 overs); Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club 81 (11.4 overs  The match was reduced to 13 overs per side. PDSC target was set at 107).
MOHAMMEDAN SPORTING CLUB WON BY 25 RUNS (DUCKWORTH-LEWIS METHOD).
MOHAMMEDAN SPORTING CLUB (7-8-1--15--6TH); PRIME DOLESHWAR SPORTING CLUB (9-4-3--21--3RD).

Mohammedan Sporting Club broke its 4 match Super League losing streak, beating Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club in a rain shortened match. PSDC finished 3rd and MSC 6th in the final standings

Super League

At the end of the day, this was a fixture maker's dream come true. Most fans were expecting both Abahani Limited and Prime Bank Cricketers Club to win their penultimate matches, setting up a winner take all final match between the two. Somewhat surprisingly, they both lost, but the winner take all final match is still on the cards. Abahani won the League match (see #46 below) when they became the first team in the Tournament to pass the 180 mark. It's anyone's guess as to what a winning total will be on June 26.

1. Abahani Limited (11-3-0--22--1st [tied]) v Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club (8-5-1--17--4th)

MATCH VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS PLAYLIST (Note: the playlist title is incorrect. Though it says Prime Doleshwar v Gazi Group, the highlights are for Prime Doleshawar v Abahani.)

Abahani's win kept them tied at the top of the table with two Super League matches left to play.

2. Gazi Group Cricketers (7-5-1--15--4th [tied]) v Prime Bank Cricket Club  (10-3-0--20--1st [tied])

PRIME BANK CRICKET CLUB (11-3-0--22--1ST [TIED]); GAZI GROUP CRICKETERS 7-6-1--15--5TH)

Prime Bank Cricket Club's win kept them tied at the top of the table with two Super League matches left to play. The loss eliminated GGC from championship contention.

3. Mohammedan Sporting Club (6-6-1--13--6th) v Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club (7-5-1--15--4th [tied])

Mohammedan Sporting Club 133/9; Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club& 137/3 (19.0 overs)
SHEIKH JAMAL DHANMONDI CLUB WON BY 7 WICKETS WITH 6 BALLS LEFT TO BOWL
SHEIKH JAMAL DHANMONDI CLUB (8-5-1--17--4TH); MOHAMMEDAN SPORTING CLUB (6-7-1--13--6TH)

Despite their victory, SJDC were eliminated from contention by the wins of the two leaders. Even if they both lose tomorrow, they will face each other in the final Super League match, meaning that there is no way that SJDC can reach the minimum number of 22 points they would need to win the Tournament. MSC lost their third consecutive Super League match, consigning them to one of the bottom two rungs of the ladder.

MATCH VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

Legends of Rupganj, who had finished as high as 2nd in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 editions of this Tournament (which was a 50 over affair until this year), found the shorter format much more difficult. The result was that they were staring down the barrel of relegation going into this match. It was a rain marred affair that was limited to 18 overs a side. Old DOHS, who beat Partex yesterday, moved into the "safe" zone, but only by a point and only because Legends had yet to play.

Put in by Legends, Old DOHS began what looked like a promising Innings with a 58 run 2nd wicket, 10.5 over partnership between Anisal Islam (who finished with 51 in 39 balls, 6 fours and 1 six, strike rate of 130.77) and Mahmudul Hasan, who basically anchored the partnership. But both of them were gone 14 runs later, dismissed by medium pacer Hossain Ali (who was the pick of the Legends bowlers with 3 for 23 in 3 overs). Captain Naeem Islam (off break) picked up the wickets of Captain Mohaiminul Khan and Wicket Keeper Pritum Kumar within 5 runs of each other to leave OD teetering at 99/6. They finished with 117/6 in a slightly shortened Innings.

OD got rid of Legends' openers and they were 29/2 in 5.1 overs. But then came the match winning partnership between Sabbir Rahman (who finished with 30 in 31 balls, 3 fours, strike rate of 96.77) and Mehdi Hasan (30 in 22 balls, 1 four, 3 sixes, strike rate of 136.36).

At 90/4 in 13.3 overs, it looked like an easy win, but it took a powerful cameo by Naeem  to get Legends over the line (27 in 14 balls, 4 fours and 1 six, strike rate of 192.86). They got there with 5 balls to spare and saved their place in the Premier League, which they might hope goes back to a 50 over format as soon as possible.

For Old DOHS, who had broken a 5 match losing streak with wins over Championship contender Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club to finish the League phase and  Partex in the first Relegation match, it was a bitter pill to swallow, especially after starting so well in this match.

FULL MATCH VIDEO (a full match video)

Old DOHS exploded for the highest score in the Tournament with 199/2 as they kept Partex Sporting Club without a win  and relegated them with a 23 run victory. The star of the show was Rakin Ahmed, who scored 92 not out on 58 balls, 11 fours, 3 sixes, and a strike rate of 158.62. After scorching Partex (who were actually relegated before the playoffs began as they were 5 points away from 11th place with only 2 matches to play) in the power play (59/0) and then adding a 3rd wicket unbroken  partnership of 131 runs (by far the largest partnership of the Tournament so far) between Rakin and Captain Mohaiminal Kahn in 12 overs made the result pretty much academic. Abdur Rashid led the Old DOHS attack with 3 for 34 in 4 overs. Old DOHS will now play Legends of Rupganj, with the loser being relegated. Partex will have one more match to try to gain their first victory of the tournament.

In the loss, Partex Captain Hasanuzzaman played perhaps the most destructive Innings of the tournament so far, 105 runs in 52 balls, 11 fours, 7 sixes, and a strike rate of 201.92. 82% of his runs came in boundaries. The 7 sixes tied Gazi Group Cricketers' Mahmudul Hasan Joy for the most in an Innings so far.

3.  Abahani Limited (8-3-0--16--3rd) v Mohammedan Sporting Club (6-4-1--13--5th)

Abahani Limited 193/7; Mohammedan Sporting Club& 133/7
ABAHANI LIMITED WON BY 60 RUNS
ABAHANI LIMITED (9-3-0--18--1ST[TIED]; MOHAMMEDAN SPORTING CLUB (6-5-1--13--6TH)

Abahani Limited, the most explosive team in the Tournament (three 180+ scores in the League phase--see below), became the first team to break the 190 barrier in their convincing win over Mohammedan Sports Club. Mushfiqur Rahim was the star of the match, his 55 run partnership in 5.5 overs with Mohammed Naim accelerating Abahani's innings from 77/3 to 132/4 at 14.4 overs. Captain and Wicket Keeper Mushfiqur finished with 57 in 32 balls, 8 fours and 1 six. His strike rate was 178.12. The other big partnership was the 2nd wicket partnership of 40 in 4.2 overs between opener Munim Shariar (who finished with 43 in 27 balls, 5 fours, 2 sixes, strike rate: 159.26) and Nazmul Hossain (27 in 17 balls, 3 sixes, strike rate: 158.82). Abahani ended the power play at 50/1.

Mohammedan were confronted with the biggest chase of the Tournament. When medium pacer Mohammed Saiffudin reduced them to 0-2 in the opening over, the match was pretty much decided. The win allowed Abahani to earn a share of first place with Prime Bank Cricket club, who lost their match (see below).

Captain and Opener Miznur Rahman scored the only century of the League Competition with 100 not out in 56 balls, 13 fours, 3 sixes, and a strike rate of 153.85. He also participated in the largest partnership in this phase with an unbroken 2nd wicket partnership of 124 in 15.2 overs as BU tried to build a total that would allow them the possibility of a crucial win which would put them into the Super League on net run rate. Alas, it all came to nothing as the match was washed out. Each team earned one point, SJDC won that place by two  points, and BU went home wondering what might have been.

PRIME DOESHWAR SPORTING CLUB WON BY 28 RUNS

Yesterday it looked like Abahani Limited were hitting their stride on their way to the Super League. Today they were stopped in their tracks by the bowling of off-spinner Sharafulla (who had not bowled in DSC's last three matches but was part of the opening attack in this one) and medium-fast pacer Kamrul Islam, who had played valiantly in two heart breaking losses (see his role with the bat in Match 32 and  with the ball in Match 38 below). Sharafulla disposed of the two in form Abahani batsmen, Minum Shariar (who had scored 92 not out and 74 in the last two matches) ,and Nazmul Hossain (30 and 65 not out) for  8 apiece. By the time both of them were gone, Abahani was 36/2. At the end of the power play they were a mere 23/1. Kamrul took 4 of the last 5 wickets, made a catch, and had a short cameo of 7 in 4 balls with 1 four and a strike rate of 175.00. And so the team that had scored over 180 three times, chasing a low target, was bundled out for just over 100, as PDSC loudly announced that they too were coming to the Super League party.

ABAHANI LIMITED (7-2-0--14 1ST [TIED]; SHEIKH JAMAL DHANMONDI CLUB (5-4-0--10--6TH [TIED])

For the second consecutive day, Abahani Limited reached 180 runs (their third time passing that mark, see Match 46 and 34 below). They are the only team to have broken the 180 barrier in the Tournament. Today they did it in a rain shortened 18.2 overs, led by an 88 run 2nd wicket partnership between Munim Shahriar (who scored 92 not out yesterday) and Nazmul Hossain. Munim again top scored with 74 in 40 balls, 9 fours, 3 sixes, and a strike rate of 185.00. Nazmul was today's not out batsman, with 65 in 42 balls, 6 fours, 2 sixes, 154.76. Due to the rain, SJDC needed 148 from 13 overs, a bridge too far for most domestic teams to cross. At 43/5 after 5 overs, they had no chance. Mehedi Hasan was the pick of the Abahani bowlers with 3 for 16 from 3 overs. The win cemented their promotion into the Super League, although it is still unclear what position they will finish in the League. But if the last two matches are any indication, they are peaking at the right time and look like they will be very difficult to beat.

In the biggest match of the Tournament so far, a battle for the top of the table, Abahani Limited batted first and reached the highest total (183/5, which they had also reached at 183/3--see Match 34 below) in the Tournament. Opener Munim Shahriar batted through the entire Innings, finishing with a brilliant 92 not out (his highest ever T20 score) on 50 balls, 9 fours, 5 sixes, and a strike rate of 184.00. He was helped by Mohammed Naim's 29 in 27 balls, 5 fours, 107.41, and Nozmul Hossain's 30 on 21 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes, 142.86. Prime Bank Cricket Club started fairly well, but Arafat Sunny took the vital wicket of opener Tamim Iqbal for 55 in 41 balls, 8 fours and 1 six, 134.15. After that there was no way back for PBC. Both teams are now tied at the top of the table.

PDSC suffered their second devastating last ball loss in two days. Yesterday bowler Kamrul Islam hit 4 sixes in the final over but was unable to connect on the final ball, leaving his team 3 runs short. Today Kamrul was by far the pick of the PDSC bowlers (4 for 24 in 4 overs), but was not the death bowler. A wayward over from death bowler Farhad Reza (5 known full tosses of the 7 deliveries--1 of the full tosses was head high, and dispatched for four--followed by two on the free hit) doomed PDSC. The last  two full tosses went for singles that tied and won the match for SJDM. So a heroic piece of batting that came just short and a poor over at the death have cost PDSP a perfect 6-0-1 record and 4 League points.

Two 48 run  partnerships (1st wicket between Mehedi Hasan and Soumya Sarkar and 4th wicket between Monimul Haque and Yasir Ali), followed by 41 for the 5th wicket between Yasir Ali and Ariful Haque, provided the backbone of one of the few over 170 runs Innings in this tournament so far.
